Vinncie is going to bring "the old gray truck"...so he is putting the Weber grill in for the camp out. along with whatever charcoal we have here at the house.

Remember 1995

Did you camp in 1995 at Backbone State Park? For those who were there....do you remember when we walked the Backbone and buried a half dollar (supplied by Uncle George) under the dead trunk of a tree???

Well...Liz sent me the map where we buried the treasure and a picture of the nephews/nieces on the log. Steve said he and Joe Vogt visited it a year or two ago and found the tree...probably a little more decayed, though, but says he can find it.

Question...does anyone have access to a metal finder??? It would take a lot of digging to find this treasure if we don't have this. Also, anyone have something special they would like to bury this year??

You know the thing about this is...I found the letter about two-three months ago. Had completely forgotten about it...Liz mailed it in 2007....so I think it's time to find the money! (Scary what I can find when I clean, isn't it!)

So...a metal detector anyone????

Alan's coming

I received an email from Alan today and he will be coming to the campout with his family. I suggested they bring a kid friendly side dish for Saturday night, some drink options, and bowls for yogurt on Sunday.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few short days.

GAMES

Everone try to bring some kind of indoor or outdoor family-friendly game---We already have bocce balls & horseshoes,a couple of canoes,a tandem bike, a trail bike. There are miles of trails for walking or biking plus swimming. I guess I was thinking of indoor games for Saturday at the lodge in case it rains. See y'all.

Thank you for the birthday wishes x&o's! I wanted to go to a Sonic for my first time. It was really good. Then went to a Michael's, a favorite craft store, and also got a big frame to work on a project at the craft get away. We have no wedding pictures framed so I want to frame a collage of sorts. Annie, I'm sure you'll get wonderful treatment at Mayo. We are 70 min. from it so if anyone needs a place to stay you are welcome. Mike was there over a year ago and we were so impressed with their admissions and the people stationed all over to direct you to wherever...It was a really early start time for testing though. But I'm sure you'll be fine. Our only problem was we had Map Quest direct us to Mayo and we got their offices which were 3 blocks away! So we had to have them call the admission people and say we were going to be late for the early appt. But it worked out fine. The day before the surgery we stayed at a motel. I think it was a Days Inn, South, in Rochester. It worked out well cause that was a really early check in time. Well, our camp out time is closer...This weather is unreal: Only in the 60's today! I wonder what end of July will bring? Bye for now.

Mayo Visit Set

Mayo Clinic called today and they have an appointment scheduled for me on August 3rd. This is perfect timing as we're so close with the Zeets campout already that weekend. Just thought I'd keep everyone informed.

We have bocce balls and horseshoes lined up and some canoes (John M and Neal). Everyone feel free to bring any outdoor game for any age . In case there is rain, there are plenty of tables inside the lodge for indoor family games. See you all in a couple of weeks!

Kinda tired. Tying up ends on the craft get away. 16 ladies are going. There was a really good interest. Golly that storm in Waterloo area must have been bad! Oh, Annie put John down for 2 big packages of Trail Mix . Just realized my clock in this room is 1 hour off. I thought it was just going on 10PM ! It's 11 PM. Oops gotta get up at 5:15 AM. Bye

Vinnie has ordered Karlovasko Beer for the campout, so we are set. Now we just have to get everything in the car!

eldest on board officially

The Tri-athletes look amazingingly buffed up for the Iowa Games. They all trained religiously for the event. Okiboji Triathalon next weekend for them---last of season I think. All the Funkes will be at campout, arriving Friday to 2 reserved campsites and 1 reserved room at Super 8 in Manchester. We will take care of fruits and veg. trays. Our campsites are next to Millers and Loeschs. Joe asked about CA wedding date---Sept 26 is the date and a ROAD TRIP to the event is planned with Rose, Liz, and Nancy on board---want to join us? And yes.it really is the eldest sputtering around on her laptop. I have now officially entered the 21st century.

The Triathalon Men...Woo

Neal and his teammate Derek did the Iowa Games Triathalon at Don Williams in Ogden today.

It was great fun. They're awesome. Way to go guys!

Okay, I've refigured the head count and it looks like we'll have closer to 42, but I don't know about Alan Nielsen or any Budak's. Melissa and Neal still haven't gotten on board with the blog but I think they're coming. I'm also not sure the status on the California Clan. I'm guessing with the wedding in September that they will stay on the coast, but I'm happy to be wrong.

Roll Call

I'm wondering just how accurate we were with our head count. Will each family attending please post along with whether you'll be tenting, hotel, or something else. I know Vince, Kathy, Rose & Roger are planning on getting to the campground on Thursday to get some of the sites that are first come first serve.

David and I will be arriving on Friday. We will be staying in a hotel while the kids will be with Grandpa and Grandma on Thursday.

Hi all, We will definitely miss the Prica's but things happen; that's good about Rocky and Cary's move. I talked to Joni: for now put her down for the 6 dozen hamburger buns, and we'll decide more later. Sounds like Barb will be there for the day Saturday, stay with family over night and pick up Joni on Sunday to return to Chicago. Joni is flying to Minnesota on Wed. night; Katie and David are coming early Thurs. May be we will go on the river Thursday. We want to stop and see the Byle Brothers Carved Clock Museum on Friday morning at Spillville, Iowa . We'll be at the camp out by 3 pm. Fri. Bye for now

Wood and Beer

We just had Joe cut some branches from our trees, so we have that wood and some that is older. We'll bring all that we can transport. Usually you can buy some wood at the office if we run out. We'll bring Karlovaska beer, and Steve said he's bring some. The only place we can find it is at HyVee or the HyVee Wine and Spirits. It's probably available here since we have Slavics/Croatians that live in Waterloo.

Firewood

Hey, Liz. Jo-Jo made a good point. States aren't letting any wood from other states come into the parks. There's a tree bug spreading and they're trying to stop it. Missouri's the same way, burn it where you buy it, don't transport it. We'll have to rely more on the locals or I recall gathering wood as a kid. I'll volunteer my two scouts to help with that. They know which plants not to touch. :)

Family History

Hey, guys. I'm kicking myself for not asking this over the past weekend, but is it possible to get a list of the different disorders that have been present in the family history? My doctor is sending me to Mayo Clinic in the near future. He suspects that I may have autoimmune pacreatitis or something else in the autoimmune family. I was thinking the time I went to Florida that Nancy was writing in her notebook this type of info.

I spent Tuesday in the ER and am just plain struggling with my health. Thank you.
