Remember 1995

Did you camp in 1995 at Backbone State Park? For those who were there....do you remember when we walked the Backbone and buried a half dollar (supplied by Uncle George) under the dead trunk of a tree???

Well...Liz sent me the map where we buried the treasure and a picture of the nephews/nieces on the log. Steve said he and Joe Vogt visited it a year or two ago and found the tree...probably a little more decayed, though, but says he can find it.

Question...does anyone have access to a metal finder??? It would take a lot of digging to find this treasure if we don't have this. Also, anyone have something special they would like to bury this year??

You know the thing about this is...I found the letter about two-three months ago. Had completely forgotten about it...Liz mailed it in 2007....so I think it's time to find the money! (Scary what I can find when I clean, isn't it!)

So...a metal detector anyone????

  1. In our area some of the equipment rental places allow you to rent metal detectors. I wonder if there's a place like that near the park. Of course that's only if someone doesn't have one.

  2. One is on the way from Sioux City Iowa---Jenee is bringing her metal detector. You will be able to spot us coming : a big white truck loaded with 4 bicycles, tent, coolers, canoe, and a metal detector. This will be a fun event. We plan on leaving Friday morning and will keep in touch as we get close to the park. See y'all.

  3. I believe we are bringing just about anything and everything now, except the kitchen sink....or wait, we have that in the lodge!

We are leaving Friday morning...Rose is getting the last site reservations for Joe Zeets, Brian Zeets, Steve Zeets and Al Nielsen, on Thursday, when she arrives to scope everything out.

Everyone have a safe trip...see you at Backbone!

  4. Kathy, did Vinny find the journal of past camp-outs? And---will anyone have any extra sleeping space in their tent? One of our tents is unusable we found out yesterday as we opened it up to check things out. It was a smaller one so we can figure it out when we arrive.

  6. We should have room for at least 2 maybe 3. Although I have to look at our tent, it's been a few years.

  7. We are counting on the grills at the campsites for our Friday meal. We will check on what sleeping space we might need once we get there----Melissa is bringing an awning type enclosed thing so that might be a possibility also for sleeping for us.We might have EXTRA space once we assemble it all.
